How do we know acupuncture works?  Acupuncture needles work by stimulating the Central Nervous System (brain and spinal cord) to release chemicals called neurotransmitters and hormones. These chemicals dull pain, boost the immune system and regulate various body functions.

What can I expect to happen in an acupuncture treatment?  Acupuncture treatments usually result in a feeling of well being as acupuncture has a strong homeostatic effect. This means that the acupuncture restores the body to its normal state of good health. It balances the body’s functioning and as the treatment proceeds, most patients report that they feel refreshed and energized.

Is acupuncture safe?  Acupuncture practice in developed parts of the world use single-use disposable needles sealed by the manufacturer in sterile conditions. The needles are opened just prior to use the by Acupuncture Physician. Because of this, the risk of infection is very low.

How long is each treatment?  The duration of a treatment typically lasts about an hour for your first visit and 30-40 minutes for a follow up visit.

Does acupuncture hurt?  While some people feel nothing at all, others experience a brief moment of discomfort as the needle penetrates the skin that can be followed by a mild sensation of traveling warmth or heaviness. Most people find the experience extremely relaxing and uplifting and even fall asleep for the duration of the treatment.

How will I know if acupuncture is working for me?  You know how your body feels. You know when it aches, when it hurts. You also know when that feeling goes away, and you feel pain free. This is how you will feel after acupuncture.
